Year 9

Nathan WoodNovember 27, 2017January 28, 2022

As your son enters Year 9, he will be asked to choose from a list of elective subjects to provide breadth of study. All boys will undertake a course in English, Mathematics, Humanities, Science, Physical Education and Language Acquisition. He will then choose two semester-long electives from a selection of Design and Technology courses and the Arts. In addition, a Philosophy course is available to be selected in place of either an Arts or Design and Technology course. It is a semester long course and although offered in both semesters, it can only be taken once.

Subject selection will be made online and an email will be sent to the boys to make their selection.

Compulsory courses

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Humanities
  • Science
  • Physical Education
  • Language Acquisition

Language Acquisition

Boys must continue the French or Indonesian course studied in Year 8.

Wellbeing

The Wellbeing Care programme is designed to help improve resilience and problem-solving abilities within the students. We encourage peer learning and building peer support networks that are reinforced in the House structure. The programme will assist the students in developing the life skills to effectively cope with difficult or anxiety-provoking situations.

Elective Courses

A boy must choose two courses, one Arts and one Design and Technology course from the list below. The Broadening course, Philosophy, can be taken in place of an Arts or Design and Technology course in one semester.

The only exception is the Music Extension Course, which will run for one academic year.

Example:

A student could choose Food Design and Visual Art

A student could choose Drama and STEM

A student could choose Media and Philosophy

A student could choose Product Design and Philosophy

A student could choose Music Extension (year-long course)
