Year 8

Nathan WoodNovember 27, 2017January 28, 2022

Year 8 students enter the final year of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), the culmination of which is the Community Project. The Community Project allows our boys to demonstrate and apply the skills and processes developed throughout their journey in the MYP in a sustained long-term project. The boys are able to choose from an increasingly broad selection of elective subjects in the Arts and Design subject groups. They are able to independently demonstrate important skills for learning such as collaboration, reflection, and research skills, preparing them for the rigours of entering the Senior School in Year 9.

Students are assessed against the MYP criteria for each subject, and detailed continuous reporting feedback from the teachers is provided online via Seqta Engage. The assessment schedules for each term are attached to the Middle School Assessment page of the Teaching and Learning website accessible here.

Elective Courses

Students must choose three courses, two from the Arts and one from Design and Technology.

The only exception is the Music Specialist Course, which will run for one academic year.

The Arts is sub-grouped into Creative Arts and Performing Arts. Students complete one elective from each sub-group over the year, unless they select Music Specialist, which is a year-long course.

In Design, students must study STEM and also select one Design elective from the remaining courses.

Example:

A student could choose Food Design and Drama and Visual Art.

A student could choose Music Specialist (year-long course) and Wood Design.
