The Year 8 French programme is based around Phase 2 learners. On occasion, beginners are taught as Phase 1 within a more experienced class and encouraged to catch up within the existing topics. Class streaming from the Year 7 results enables extension for the faster or more experienced learners, even within Phase 2.
Topics taught are: En ville, On fait des projets, De jour en jour (L’ école), En famille, Bon Appetit, En Voyage, Ca va? and On va s’amuser. The course is structured around Tricolore Total 2.
Native speakers are encouraged to participate in class and are usually given time to follow the National Center for Distance Education (CNED) distance learning course, which can match the French national syllabus pace if needed.
Assessment and reporting are ongoing throughout the year with the boys being formally assessed in the following criteria twice per year:
Criterion A – Comprehending spoken and visual text
Criterion B – Comprehending written and visual text
Criterion C – Communicating in response to spoken and/or written and/or visual text
Criterion D – Using language in spoken and/or written form
