Music Specialist

James AnthonyDecember 4, 2017October 23, 2020

If your son receives regular instrumental or vocal tuition (either via a Scotch College Instrumental Teacher or an external/private Music Teacher) and has a real passion for music, they can opt to study Music Specialist, which is a year-long course and takes the place of both Arts semesters.  Music Specialist course offers opportunities for the boys to explore music in a practical (small group) setting, aurally analysing various styles of contemporary music, developing the skills required to compose music using notation software and a focus on theory and aural (musicianship) skills.  Class work typically includes clapping and singing musical examples, listening to music for ideas and inspiration for their own compositions, developing basic music theory skills, transcribing and dictating small musical extracts.  Boys who suit this course are enthusiastic and have a passion or interest in music.  There is no requirement to audition for Music Specialist.
