Music: Specialist Studies
This performance course is for boys who play a musical instrument and have regular lessons with an instrumental teacher and wish to build on their skills in a traditional western art music setting. It is focused on solo and ensemble performance using own instruments. Class work typically includes solo and small group performance activities, composition, researching and analysing music from western and non-western musical cultures, and using music technology to create and record music. The course allows boys to study the varied purposes of music in our lives now, in the past and in other cultures around the world. Examples may include entertainment, music therapy, music in advertising, ceremonial music, music for human expression and music as an art form. Boys must be having regular lessons on an instrument to enrol in this course. Year 9 Music Extension (Performance) offers the most appropriate pathway to the study of Music in Years 11 and 12.
