Language and Literature
The Year 6 programme is divided into four main units of study that each integrate the elements of language, literature and literacy. Students are offered experiences that involve reading, writing, speaking and listening within a wide variety of text types and purposes while learning and consolidating the skills and concepts needed to support this. Firstly, students explore the theme of Identity via the study of autobiography and how to engage audiences through language. In Autumn Term, students delve into the concept of survival and the strength of the human spirit through the study of the narrative genre and its conventions. Visual literacy in Winter Term asks students to traverse the line between imagination and reality to explore the features of information texts. Lastly, students learn the skills of persuasion and the concept of perspective through the study of the Stolen Generation and its impact on Australians.
