The Year 6 French programme welcomes beginners into Phase 1 and previous learners into Phase 2.

The Phase 1 programme is divided into four introductory units of study: About Me; At Home; My Free Time; and My Life. The About Me unit focuses on boys learning to introduce themselves and also includes classroom vocabulary and instruction, focusing on prepositions and imperative verbs. In the At Home unit, the boys learn to describe their houses and families, developing their learning about prepositions and introducing the boys to possessive pronouns. Whilst following the My Free Time unit, the boys learn to describe what they like to do in their free time and also to describe the weather. The My Life unit introduces the boys to reflexive verbs whilst they learn about schools in France.

The Phase 2 programme moves quickly from revision into an extended version of the above themes; the extension is based around additional vocabulary, extended inquiry tasks and the present tense of verbs.

Native speaker students are encouraged to study the distance learning programme provided in parallel with the French education system by the National Center for Distance Education (CNED).
