Certificate II - Hospitality

The VET Certificate ll in Hospitality course provides students with the opportunity to achieve national qualifications under the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) and to gain School Curriculum and Standards Authority course unit credits towards the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).

The Hospitality Certificate ll Course provides an excellent opportunity for students wanting to develop their knowledge, understanding and operational skills within this industry. It delivers practical cooking experience for students, enabling them to become adept in routine tasks across a variety of core skills. Lessons focus on developing relevant technical, vocational and interpersonal competencies suitable for employment and further training within hospitality. Students will gain valuable knowledge and experience, including Food Preparation, Barista, Wait Skills, Customer Service and the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) qualifications.

The course provides a pathway to work in hospitality, including restaurants, hotels, resorts, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. If you like working with people from all walks of life and like to travel, a hospitality qualification will give you proficiencies skills that can take you around the globe or to help you gain employment as you continue with further studies at university.

Course Requirements

There are 12 units of competency that must be completed over a 2 year duration to achieve this qualification. Additionally, it is a compulsory requirement for students to work as wait staff at 12 Scotch functions over the 2 year period, these take place after school and in the evening.

Assessment

All nationally recognised courses use a competency based approach to assessment. This involves students being assessed against standard criteria or benchmarks. A student is judged either competent or not yet competent. The judgement is made on the basis of evidence which includes;  tests, practical demonstrations, observations, role play and workbooks. All elements of competency must be achieved to complete the unit.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for Certificate II – Hospitality.
