Music Tuition

Tim BurrowsDecember 14, 2018November 27, 2020

Scotch College offers a comprehensive music tuition programme, with a faculty of expert practitioners delivering lessons each week of the school year. Learning an instrument (including learning to sing) is challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. Our music students become part of what we colloquially refer to as the Scotch Music Family.

Our highly respected faculty staff teach following a recognised music syllabus and offer education in a variety of musical contexts, including Western Art/Classical Music, Jazz Music, Contemporary Popular Music and Musical Theatre.

Music Tuition will provide students with the tools for development of instrumental or vocal technique, assist with preparation of solo repertoire appropriate to their level of experience and prepare ensemble repertoire for rehearsals and performances.

FAQs

Which instruments are available for study?

How much does music tuition cost?

Lesson fees are charged based upon the number of scheduled lessons and length of each lesson. Lesson length will be determined by each student’s Music Tutor in conjunction with parents and will depend on factors such as skill level attained and technical difficulty of repertoire.

2021 charges (per individual lesson):

  • 30 minute lesson: $43.60
  • 45 minute lesson: $65.40
  • 60 minute lesson: $87.20

2020 charges (per group lesson*):

note that group lessons are only available for early years keyboard, year six music (band) programme, and electronic music for introductory students.
  • 30 minute group lesson: $32.70

Please note: lesson fees are billed per lesson scheduled. All fees are billed in advance for the proceeding term.

When do lessons occur?

Students who are enrolled for music tuition will have a lesson scheduled each week. Students come out of regular classes to attend their lessons, for either 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The lesson will be rotated through a different time each week so that students do not repeatedly miss the same class. The only exceptions to this are:

  • students with a diagnosed learning difficulty, who have an individual education plan which stipulates a fixed lesson time requirement
  • students in Year 12 studying in the ATAR or IB Diploma pathway, who will be allocated a fixed lesson time during a scheduled study period or outside of regular class time
