Week 2, Autumn Term 2024
Dear Boarding Families,
I hope you have had a good start to term. We are crossing our fingers and praying for rain for our farming families, I am sure that when the rain comes, there will be dancing in the corridors of the boarding houses! In the meantime, the weather in Perth has been sublime and the boys have been making good use out of the local beaches in perfect conditions.
It was lovely to see so many parents at the Boarding Parent Sundower at the end of last term, such a fantastic evening down at the Gooch Pavilion with beautiful weather and great company. It is a good chance for parents to catch up with each other and also catch up with staff in a relaxed setting, where there is an opportunity to speak about the boys, but also to catch up in a friendly setting and to develop that trusting relationship between staff and parents that is so vital in a boarding community. I still have a couple of hand held cooler bags that were left behind, so please get in touch if you left yours there. Speaking of cooler bags, if you’re looking for a new one, visit Mr Montgomery’s Kraken Bros Website!
We have two new students this term, Gus has started with us in Year 9 and we have Haruto joining us from Tokyo on a three week exchange. Both boys have fitted in really well and are enjoying their time in boarding.
Winter Sport has started and we played round one against local rivals Christ Church. The weather was perfect for both days and the atmosphere particularly on Saturday morning at the Scotch playing fields was amazing. The boys who played did a great job and we had some success on the fields, especially in football and rugby. There were huge crowds there and as I walked around it was fantastic to see so many Scotch boarders helping run the boundary or sit there in groups of friends watching the games.
Last week we entered a bit of a strange week in boarding, with PTSIs and Anzac day breaking up the regular school week. The Year 11s and 12s have started their exam period so our boarding house is staffed all day and boys are coming in and out during the day. On Wednesday and Thursday, the senior boarding house has been full. We had encouraged the boys to go out to the dawn service and it is pleasing to see our pipe band and orchestra get the chance to perform.
I let parents of Yr 7 boys know that our plans for a Mother’s Day weekend catch up has been postponed and we will look to hold a parent event later in the term. At this stage it looks like a day at the end of term is the preference. We have a Yr 11 mother/son get together planned for 28 May, to fit in around the Year 11 House Head meetings coming up.
I wish all families a wonderful weekend ahead.
All the best,
Jordan
Anzac Day
The MS boys were busy making poppies to wear to the Anzac Day service under Theresa’s tutelage. They looked very smart in their uniforms in the cool early morning.
Bibbulmun Track Assembly
On Friday 19th April, Jordan did a presentation about the Bibbulmun Track – Year 12 walkers and End to Enders. The link to the video of the assembly is below:

Boarding Parent Sundowner
Boarding Parents and Staff were treated to a fabulous night of jazz under the stars by Scotch and PLC students from the Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Combo instrumental groups. A huge thank you to the Directors Luke Minness, Justin Gross, and Matt Gudgeon and also to Scott Loveday, Head of Music for making it happen. Thanks also go to Andrew Alcock for his technical support and expertise.
Jordan welcomed parents and staff and expressed his thanks for their support and wished Pam Seaby a wonderful time whilst on Long Service Leave for Term 2.
Thanks to Kate McCormack from Frankland Estate Wines for organising the wines for the evening.
A big thank you to Catering for an outstanding job with the food offerings and the Certificate II in Hospitality students from Scotch and PLC did a great job of presenting, serving and clearing the food for parents and staff. Thanks to Adam, Claire and Annaliese Luton.
Clash of Clans
Congratulations to Stirling Clan!! The final Clash of Clans for the term, in a showdown of European Handball – a big decider for the winner of this year’s trophy, as there is not much separating our two Clans. It was a fantastic night to end the term, and on top of that we will be fortunate enough to enjoy an American Style Burger night on the boarding house steps afterwards, no doubt a treat.
Recreation
Some of the Year 9s went to Bounce to show off their basketball skills. Others practiced their dodgeball prowess.
On Anzac Day, some of the boys decided to wash the Boarding Bus. It was a beautiful sunny day with the beats playing – thanks to Spencer, Lynton, Riley, Zac and Kieran for their help.
Iceskating at Cockburn Ice Rink.
Afternoon tea in the Big House
Just to show you what it looks like in the house before the boys rush in for afternoon tea!! Kerry, Theresa and Thomas Mackay getting ready!! Looks delicious and thanks to Thomas on Toastie duty.
