The Year 7 Visual Art course focuses on the processes and skills required to produce a compelling self-portrait that conveys an expressive sense of identity by the artist. Students will look into the challenges of drawing the face proportionally, colour theory for expressive emphasis as utilised by early Modernist painters, photography and the use of Photoshop as a tool for art making and mixing, blending and applying acrylic paint to apply in shapes. Autumn Term will look at creating a collaborative ceramic relief tile based on the minutia and detail from Lake Claremont, which is an integral element of ‘place’ for Scotch College. Students will work as a team on designing, planning and executing a tile that is one of four in the final piece.

The key Approaches To Learning (ATL) skills below will be explicitly taught and will be assessed on a four-point rating scale:

COMMUNICATION

  • Interpret and use effectively non-verbal modes of communication

SOCIAL
