In Year 6 Visual Art students will focus on small-scale sculpture inspired by Surrealist ideas, as well as the works of Pre-Columbrian artists, Hayao Miyazaki and Shaun Tan. They will design a character that toys with our perceptions of reality through form in a playful and clever way. The objective is to surprise and delight the viewer with a form that is original, expressive and inventive, but well thought out and executed in both watercolour and clay. The first term will be dedicated to design development and watercolour painting, while the second term will be dedicated to the construction of the figure in clay to realise the creative objectives of the project.
The key Approaches To Learning (ATL) skills below will be explicitly taught and will be assessed on a four-point rating scale:
- Interpret and use effectively modes of non-verbal communication
- Keep an organised and logical system of information files/notebooks
- Use brainstorming and visual diagrams to generate new ideas and inquiry
