Photography and Graphic Design

James AnthonyDecember 4, 2017March 9, 2020

This course has a focus on the exciting visual mediums of photography and graphic design. In Unit 1, students use the processes of design; inquiry, ideation and production, to explore and create digital photographs. Students explore a variety of subjects such as landscape, portraiture, architecture, environmental and conceptual photography, culminating in a Photography Series based around a theme or idea that  explores their interests and passions and demonstrates their personal style as a photographer. In Unit 2, students explore and create an advertising campaign, designing materials for an Advertising Campaign. This task helps students to understand the principles of effective layout and design. They create designs for a specific purpose and audience. Students develop their production skills using professional quality digital cameras, lighting studios and software programmes like Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Lightroom.

The assessment tasks focus on the development of practical skills that result in the completion of design portfolio work and analytical skills in the deconstruction of visual texts.

The Photography and Graphic Design course helps prepare boys for ATAR and General Design Photography and Design Graphics courses in Years 11 and 12.
