Music
Year 7
The Music Programme at Scotch College is an extensive and inclusive one that is built on active participation. Through inquiry, creativity and performance, students begin to find their musical voice, and take ownership of it in a pivotal time of their development.
Classroom music in Year 7 is a compulsory, year-long course. Students are placed into an appropriate pathway to best facilitate their learning from a practical standpoint. The four pathways that operate in Year 7 are listed below.
- Experienced Band Pathway – Students who have had previous experience on the Concert Band Instrument they are receiving music tuition lesson on
- Emerging Band Pathway – Students who are commencing music tuition on a Concert Band instrument for the first time
- String Pathway – Students who are receiving music tuition on a classical string instrument
- Choral Pathway – Students complete practical activities using their voice and other resources. Music tuition on voice is not a requirement of this pathway
Students can also enrol in music tuition on instruments not part of the above mentioned Experienced, Emerging and String Pathways (eg. piano, drums). Playing these instruments does not factor in their placement of a classroom pathway.
Selected new Year 7 students (i.e., those not at Scotch in Year 6) may also apply for subsidised music tuition on a Concert Band instrument, which can impact the pathway they selected.
