In Year 6, Humanities and Social Sciences concepts are taught through an inquiry-based approach.
In the unit of study Planet Earth – Impending Disaster, students develop an understanding of the effects of natural disasters on people and places, evaluating the importance of international humanitarian aid on affected communities.
The unit of study, Energised Government, examines the three levels of government, the election process, and how laws can be passed to advance more sustainable renewable energy practices.
The unit, Being, Becoming and Belonging focuses on developing an understanding and awareness of the factors that lead to migration. Students develop an understanding that Australia is a diverse and connected world, and explore how migrants have enriched Australian society.
Finally, Global Citizens immerses students in the human impacts of plastic pollution on natural and cultural environments, examining the advantages and disadvantages of plastic use and developing innovative and creative solutions to the global problem.
